What are the contraindications to using a TENS or a muscle stimulator?


Cancer

  • Not recommended to use the device:In the presence of metastases or circulatory cancer.
  • Necessary to wait for the healing period or upon authorization from the attending physician.
  • Precautions to take:
  • For any other type of cancer, TENS can be used ON THE PERIPHERY OF THE AFFECTED AREA, only with the informed consent of the patient.


Pacemaker

  • Not recommended to use the device
  • In the presence of a pacemaker (can be used with the permission of the cardiologist only).
  • Use under the supervision of a healthcare professional in cases of:
  • Transthoracic & anterior application of the heart region;
  • Genitals;
  • Electronic implant;
  • Heart disease;
  • Pregnancy;
  • Epilepsy;
  • Skin sensory disorder, loss of sensitivity;
  • DVT/phlebitis/embolism;
  • Hemorrhage;
  • Tuberculosis.


IT IS ADVISED TO CONTACT A SET EXPERT IN ORDER TO VALIDATE THE APPLICATION OF ELECTROTHERAPY FOR THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS:

  • Circulatory disorder;
  • Communication disorder;
  • Skin disease;
  • Active epiphyseal plate;
  • Taking anticoagulant as a preventative measure (monitor vascular and cardiorespiratory signs and symptoms).
